The Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) is a network protocol for accessing directories. It is based on the X.500, a CCITT standard for directory services that is part of the OSI suite of services. This lesson describes the differences and similarities in the LDAP and JNDI models. It begins by giving an overview of the X.500. Then it describes the LDAP (v2 and v3) and its related standards. The remainder of the lesson discusses how LDAP concepts are represented in the JNDI, including how LDAP operations and error codes map to JNDI methods and exceptions.
